Forced Swimming Experiment

Summary

The forced swimming test is used with rats, mice, or other laboratory animals to provide an inescapably oppressive environment by placing the animal in a confined environment (e.g., water) in which the animal desperately tries to escape but is unable to do so, and after a period of time the animal exhibits the typical "immobility state". After a period of experimentation, the animals show a typical "immobility state", reflecting a state called "behavioral despair", and a series of parameters are recorded during the process of generating a desperate immobility state in the animals in this environment.
